Mio signs UK Distribution Agreement with Dakota

Dakota Integrated Solutions, the specialist Manchester based Healthcare IT Solution Provider, is pleased to announce that it has become a UK Distributor for MioCARE™, manufacturer of handheld tablets tailored for mobile computing applications in healthcare environments.

MioCARE™ - a brand of MiTAC, a leading global manufacturer of tablet PCs and mobility solutions – announced today that it had signed a distribution arrangement with Dakota Integrated Solutions, for the provision of its tablet devices to NHS Trust organisations and healthcare providers in the UK.

Dakota is a leading provider of IT Solutions into Healthcare and delivers mobile computing solutions in acute environments aimed at reducing clinician administration time and ultimately improve patient care. Since 2008, Dakota has supported healthcare professionals to understand and adopt bar code technology to improve patient safety. The company specialises in solutions, encompassing hardware recommendations, software integration with existing hospital systems, as well as post sales training and support, designed to improve efficient communication between medical professionals.

MioCARE™ offers a range of tablet PCs, including the A105, A90 and Z100 devices, which have been developed to meet the increasing needs of healthcare professionals for truly portable and easy to use devices. Feature-rich and specifically designed for hospital environments, MioCARE™ products are ideal for applications including accessing and updating patient records, controlling pharmaceuticals, monitoring sterilisation work, management of dictation and workflow processes.

Thanks to their antimicrobial infection control technology, MioCARE™ tablets can be kept clean at all times. Their casing includes an IP54 sealed Polycarbonate disinfectable coating which withstands alcohol based cleaners, ensuring that a hygienic environment can be maintained.

With a 6” screen, these devices are lightweight and pocket-sized for comfortable use throughout the day. They operate on Android, making them flexible for use with many mobile applications as well as web based mobile interfaces.

Their Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities ensure users can communicate and update data in real-time.

Programmable hot keys provide easy access to software applications, and there is also a microphone for dictation. An alert indicator can also be programmed to flash at the required stage of the workflow process. Security can be enhanced with a range of complementary solutions developed by MioCARE™ including a full two factor smartcard authentication and access log-in for clinical use ensuring patient data is kept safe. The healthcare “look and feel” of the tablet – the outer casing is a very distinct green colour - also discourages its use in non-medical environments.

Patients can easily be identified and wristband and label data can be uploaded securely and efficiently via the 1D (A100) or 2D (A105) barcode scanners ensuring records are maintained with minimal errors and patients receive the right medication. The ability to upload data via the scanner also reduces administration time. The devices can include a wrist/lanyard connector ensuring they can be carried around easily.

Sabine Kelly, Dakota Integrated Solutions Marketing Manager commented “We are very excited to launch the range of MioCARE™ tablets to our product portfolio. The “paperless” or “paper-light” vision expressed by the Health Secretary this time last year very much dominates the NHS at present, and with the Trusts and IT Suppliers putting a lot of effort to make a strong business case to unlock “Safer Hospitals, Safer Wards Technology Funds”, we are seeing increasing demand for tablet devices to be used by clinicians at the point of care. We are confident that our new partnership with MioCARE™ will provide us with new opportunities to fulfil these requirements for portable, disinfectant-ready tablets.”

Dr Julian Stone, MiTAC EMEA Healthcare Business Development Director added “We are pleased to announce our agreement with Dakota. They have a very strong pedigree in Healthcare in this country, based on years of dedication and hard work in understanding the IT needs of clinicians and IT support staff in Hospitals. Dakota have a refreshing customer-focused approach and they have become over the years a “safe pair of hands” for many NHS Trusts. The technical competencies and enthusiasm of their Healthcare Sales Team makes them the perfect partner for MioCARE™.”

Mio launches the MioCARE™ range of healthcare tablets

World's first pocket-sized tablet, optimally designed for healthcare, with integrated barcode scanner

Dusseldorf, Germany, 14th November 2012 – Mio, a brand of MiTAC International Corp., today launches the MioCARE™ range of tablet devices designed to meet the specialised needs of healthcare professionals. The range, comprising the MioCARE™ A105 and MioCARE™ Z100, is set to offer effective optimisation for today's healthcare work environment. The A105 includes a world's first; an integrated barcode scanner not seen on previous pocket-sized tablets especially designed for healthcare.

A world's first in a healthcare tablet

The MioCARE™ A105 uses the world's first integrated 2D barcode scanner to capture, track and trace. For increased efficiency, improved outcomes or eliminating counterfeit drugs, 2D barcodes are being widely adopted in healthcare for pharmaceuticals, patient identification, specimen tracking and unique device identification of surgical instruments. These implementations put Mio at the forefront of the healthcare tablet industry.

Designed for the healthcare environment

The MioCARE™ range was designed after extensive research into the optimal width, height and weight for a device to be held in one hand. The devices have a Polycarbonate disinfectable surface and the A105 has one metre drop resistance and is IP54 rated for water resistance. The result is a genuine handheld device for the healthcare industry that can be carried and used comfortably throughout the working day.

Optimising the healthcare work environment

All devices in the MioCARE™ range share a number of features that make them stand out as innovative tablets for the healthcare industry. Both are equipped with a camera and microphone and promote real-time collaboration and communication. Both are flexible and programmable – the Android based operating system means it's easy to integrate apps and solutions onto the MioCARE™ tablet, allowing the device to become a host to logistics, tracking, dictation and more. The A105 is supported with single and six unit charging and network cradles, essential for use in busy healthcare environments.

Data security

A key feature of the MioCARE™ A105 is its security options, which include two factor smartcard authentications via cradle or Bluetooth smartcard accessories, access logging and log on solutions for non-clinical use.

“The launch of the MioCARE™ range, based on a two year healthcare collaboration, is a new venture for Mio, but one that has the potential to make a significant impact on the healthcare industry” said Mike West, Vice President, Operations at Mio. “The range is designed to succeed where similar devices have failed – they are dedicated to healthcare, simple to use, allow for easy application integration and fit seamlessly into the healthcare environment, while the A105's unique barcode function is a future mainstay of healthcare tablets. The MioCARE™ range will make for quicker, more efficient and secure data collection, the results of which are improved systems and patient care.”
